Overview
Margen is a personal budgeting app. It does not connect to your bank or any financial accounts — the only data in the app is numbers you type in yourself. All data is stored on your device. We do not require account creation, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
Data We Collect
Data you provide
- Budget information (income, expenses, purchases, savings goals) — stored locally on your device by default.
- Display name — if you use the Partner Sharing feature, you choose a name visible to your budget partner.
Data collected automatically
- Crash reports — When the app encounters an error, we collect technical information (error messages and stack traces) to fix bugs. No personal or financial data is included.
- Basic usage analytics — We collect anonymous event data (e.g., "app opened") to improve the app. These events contain no personally identifiable information.
- Purchase transactions — If you subscribe to Margen Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple or Google and our payment processor. We receive subscription status but not your payment details.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Email addresses, phone numbers, or real names
- Location data
- Device advertising identifiers
- Contacts, photos, or other device data
- Browsing history
Cloud Sync (Partner Sharing)
If you enable Partner Sharing (a premium feature), your budget data is synced to a secure cloud database so your partner can access it. This data is encrypted in transit and accessible only to devices with the shared budget code. You can leave or delete a shared budget at any time.

Data Retention
- Local data remains on your device until you delete it. You can reset all data from the app's Settings at any time.
- Cloud data (shared budgets) is retained while the shared budget is active.
- Analytics and crash data is retained according to the respective service provider's retention policies.
Children's Privacy
Margen is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your Rights
- Delete all local data at any time from the app's Settings screen.
- Leave a shared budget to stop cloud syncing.
- Contact us with questions about your data.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date.
